We discussed retirement annuities and I asked him to look at my annuity as I had not reviewed my portfolio for quite some time. JD suggested that, because I am an draftsman, I need to consider an income protection plan covering me against temporary or permanent disability. The first thing one thinks is, “do I really need this”.
He then completed a full financial analysis by adding our company benefits, assets, liabilities, and existing policies into calculations that he explained in a way that we could understand. After all his calculations we found that I was under-insured. We did the calculations together and decided on the required coverage. The monthly amount is minimal and has had little effect on our monthly budget.
We also did a comparison between our existing medical aid and Liberty’s medical aid to be pleasantly surprised that Liberty was significantly more affordable with many more benefits.
My wife and I had a new addition to our family. Our little daughter was a healthy little baby but had some unfortunate medical emergencies. She had to have stitches on four separate occasions and we also rushed her to the emergency room when she was running a fever a couple of times. We have never had a problem with our medical aid.
Early on the morning of the 13th of January 2014, on my way to work and right in front of my office on my motorcycle, I had a major accident with a man doing an illegal U-turn. I woke up in ICU with an arm broken in 3 places and a leg broken in 2 places and needed to undergo many tests for internal injuries. I was unable to perform my daily working activities as a draftsman.
JD and his admin team sorted through the hospital admin errors for the Liberty claim without frustration or complaint.
When JD found out that I was declared temporarily disabled he immediately took control and suggested that he would help me claim from my disability income protector. Liberty started paying my income immediately. This helped my family and I during an exceedingly difficult time.
Thank goodness for the conversation with JD, seven years earlier as I was unable to work for a year while undergoing surgeries and investigation, but could focus on getting well while we were covered financially.
Today, more than 12 years later, JD still takes care of our financial portfolio with Liberty. We currently live in Denmark and every year JD gets in touch to do what needs to be done.”
